privacy policy.
Applies to The Artisans mobile app (iOS and Android) and theartisans.ae.
Your data, treated with care. We collect only what we need to collect, alter and return your garments — and nothing that exists to be sold, traded or advertised against.
1. Who we are
The Artisans is a garment alteration and tailoring service operating in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean The Artisan Men Tailoring LLC, trading as The Artisans, of Al Barsha 1, behind Novotel, Dubai, UAE. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data described here.
Questions about this policy, or about your data, go to privacy@theartisans.ae or +971 4 58 44 777.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers the personal data we handle when you:
- use The Artisans app to create an account, book an alteration, upload garment photographs, track an order or contact us;
- visit theartisans.ae; or
- contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email about a booking.
It does not cover third-party websites we may link to, which have their own policies.
3. What we collect
Everything below is collected either because you give it to us, or because it is created as part of doing the work you booked.
| Data | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Name, mobile number, email address | To create and secure your account, confirm who is booking, and reach you about your garments. Your mobile number is also how you sign in — we send a one-time code to it. |
| Service addresses | To collect from and deliver to the right place, and to confirm you are inside our service area. |
| Approximate location (only when you ask) | Used only when you tap to detect your address or check service-area coverage. Never collected in the background, and never used to track your movements. |
| Garment photographs | So our tailors can see the item and prepare an accurate quote before any work begins. |
| Measurement profiles | Taken at fittings, so repeat work fits you without re-measuring every time. |
| Booking and order history | To run the service: quotes, approvals, collection and delivery slots, order status and invoices. |
| Payment status | To know what is paid and what is outstanding. We never see or store your card number — payment is taken in person on completion, or through a payment provider that handles the card details itself. |
| Messages you send us | Support conversations and notification history, so any member of the team can pick up where the last one left off. |
| Device and technical data | App version, device type and a push-notification token, so notifications reach the right device and so we can diagnose faults. |
What we do not collect
We do not collect advertising identifiers, browsing history outside our own app, your contacts, your health data, your financial account details, or any data used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites. The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
4. Why we use your data
Solely to provide the alteration service and to run our business lawfully. Specifically:
- To deliver the service — preparing quotes from your photographs, scheduling collection and delivery, tailoring to your measurements, and telling you where your garments are.
- To communicate with you — one-time sign-in codes, booking confirmations, quote approvals, status updates and delivery notices, by push notification, WhatsApp, SMS or email.
- To take payment and issue invoices, and to meet UAE tax and accounting obligations.
- To keep the service safe and working — preventing fraudulent or abusive use, and fixing faults.
- To improve our service — reviewing anonymised, aggregated patterns such as typical turnaround times. This never involves profiling you individually.
We rely on your consent where you give it (for example, granting camera, photo or location access), and on the necessity of processing to perform the service you asked for and to comply with the law.
5. Permissions the app asks for
Each permission is requested in context, at the moment it is needed, and the app remains usable if you decline — you can type an address instead of detecting it, and upload photographs from your library instead of the camera.
- Camera — to photograph the garment you would like altered, so our tailors can prepare your work.
- Photo library — to choose existing photographs of your garment.
- Location (while using the app) — to confirm you are in our service area and to pin your delivery address. Used only when you ask.
- Notifications — to tell you when your garments are collected, quoted, ready or on the way.
You can change any of these at any time in your device settings.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers. Ever.
We share the minimum necessary with a small number of parties who help us run the service, each bound to use it only for that purpose:
- Our own tailors, drivers and atelier staff, who need your address, garment photographs and measurements to do the job.
- Our hosting and IT providers, who store the data on our behalf under contract.
- Messaging providers (WhatsApp Business and SMS), who deliver your one-time sign-in codes and order updates.
- Apple and Google push services, which route notifications to your device.
- Our payment provider, where a payment is taken electronically. They handle the card details; we receive only the result.
- Our accountants and auditors, and government authorities, where UAE law requires it.
7. How long we keep it, and how to have it deleted
Want to delete your account? You can do it in the app under Profile → Delete my account, or — if you no longer have the app installed — request it on our account deletion page. No reinstall required.
Garment photographs are removed on request, and are in any case not kept beyond the period needed for the order and any follow-up refit.
Deleting your account removes your profile (name, mobile number, email), saved addresses, measurement profiles, garment photographs and notification history. Deletion takes effect immediately; residual copies in backups clear within 30 days. It cannot be undone, and any active booking must first be completed or cancelled.
Completed order and invoice records are kept in anonymised form for five years, the minimum period UAE tax law requires. Once anonymised they can no longer be linked to you.
Two ways to delete your account:
- In the app — Profile → Delete my account.
- By email — write to privacy@theartisans.ae from the email address on your account, or call +971 4 58 44 777. We complete verified requests within 30 days.
8. Your rights
At any time you may ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
- Delete your data, subject to records we are legally required to retain;
- Restrict or object to a particular use of your data;
- Withdraw consent you previously gave, such as camera, photo or location access;
- Stop marketing messages, without affecting messages about an active booking.
Contact privacy@theartisans.ae. We respond within 30 days and never charge for a reasonable request. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the UAE Data Office.
9. How we protect your data
All data travels between the app and our systems over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to customer records is restricted to staff who need it to do their work, and is protected by individual accounts. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your mobile number, so there is no password to be stolen or reused. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects your personal data we will notify you and the relevant authority as UAE law requires.
10. Children
The Artisans app is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact privacy@theartisans.ae and we will delete it.
11. Where your data is held
Your data is stored and processed in the United Arab Emirates. Your account details, addresses, garment photographs, measurements and order records do not leave the UAE.
Two unavoidable exceptions, both limited to the message itself and neither involving your photographs, measurements or order history: the messaging services that deliver your one-time sign-in codes and order updates (WhatsApp Business and SMS), and the Apple and Google push services that route notifications to your device, operate internationally. Where that happens, we require appropriate contractual protections so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection.
12. Cookies on this website
theartisans.ae uses only the cookies strictly necessary for the site to function and to remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work. The Artisans app does not use cookies for tracking — it stores your sign-in session and booking data on your own device so the app works between visits.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and revise the version and date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
